that one time i wore red lipstick.

Last week we found a random Target gift card on my husband's desk with $12.50 still left on it, and neither of us knew where it even came from! So I asked my husband if I could have it and he said yes, but only under one condition--I had to spend it on something for myself and not on food or other family/household items that I would normally buy at Target. So I hugged him and kissed him and skipped on over to Target with my $12.50 gift card honestly feeling like I had just hit the jackpot.

And I totally kept my promise....I went straight to the cosmetics section and picked me out some red lipstick! I was always wary of having bright lipstick when my hair was blonde for fear of looking like a barbie or something, but now that my hair is darker I feel like anything goes. Plus I'm almost 25 years old and I don't own a tube of lipstick?? What the heck!

So I wore the lipstick on Friday afternoon, and must admit that I haven't worn it since. Turns out when you wear lipstick you can't do things like drink from your water bottle or kiss your husband [haha]......so I'm not sure when I'll ever wear it again, but it was free and it was fun while it lasted, and now it is permanently on the blog so I can forever and always remember that one time I wore red lipstick. :)

  1. 1. i love your husband

    2. i TOTALLY AGREE with you about the red lipstick. it's such a nice idea...but not realistic for real life. i can't barely talk without being self conscious while wearing it!

  3. You totally rocked it. But I can see how it would get in the way of every day life...my Grannie wears red lipstick every day (and has since I've known her), and it's everywhere. All over her kitchenware, all over her teeth, and all over us. But she can get away with it I guess, since she's 80 :)

  5. I think you have unusually pretty lips - and I've thought that before while looking at your blog, but seeing them in bright red made me stop and comment.

  6. But kissing and leaving lip marks is the best part of wearing lipstick :)

  7. What a cute story! And equally cute photo. At least you now have it in case you feel like busting it out in the future.

  11. I just started wearing lipstick myself and it really is a bit limiting. I of course had it on my teeth at one point and I realized that I couldn't wear lipstick without a friend or husband around to monitor my teeth. High maintenance!

  12. I'm 24 as well and I just got my first red lipstick a few months ago. But i've been wearing it ever since, i love it and wish i'd had the guts to rock it sooner. So i say, go for it!

  13. That's why you save it for nights out on the town when you really want to feel sexy. And guys LOVE it. I read a study once that even confirmed it.

  15. Adore the red lipstick on you!! And that blouse is just dreamy and SO pretty. As for wearing red lipstick? I'm with you, it's a bit of an event. I usually reserve mine for when I'm going out for cocktails in the evening. And not being able to kiss my hubs? Definite draw back!!

Hope you're having a lovely weekend. xx veronika

  16. I know what you mean girl! I'm 21 (almost) and still do not own a tube of lipstick...I don't think I could ever pull of red! It's a little too much glam for me! And it might look a little weird with the yoga clothes I can't ever seem to change out of! :)

  18. This is super belated, but you have created the most beautiful imagery here. How strange that lipstick is no longer commonplace, whereas not so many years ago it was scandalous to leave the house without it. In the last year I feel like I've mastered wearing lipstick, starting small with coral and working up to classic red, and strangely it makes me feel more 'done' than when I wear eye make up. Maybe because it's classic and therefore makes everything feel more elegant..? Nevertheless, I agree with you and it does make it far too hard to kiss my gentleman..and that's not something I want to give up! ;)
You have so much style xx

  19. You can totally get red lip stain markers or Sephora long wear lipstick that doesnt come off on your husband! I know, I've been wearing it nonstop for about a year now. Try it again, I think it looks beautiful on you!
