The Art of Homemaking. || BABY ROOM

When I was pregnant (seems soo long ago!?) my favorite thing to do every morning was putter around our apartment, straightening things up and switching things around and reorganizing things here & there. Nothing was ever the same by the time Aaron got back from work at the end of the day, but I was making a home, which I'm sure all girls would understand...is serious business.

Prior to being pregnant, I never put much effort into making our home feel like a "home"...but this past spring/summer I caught the nesting bug bad, and with it came a very strong sense of ownership for this place that we lived in. My grand master plan was to have our entire apartment looking absolutely perfect before baby got here, which of course didn't happen. But! I did finish Wyatt's room (just barely...only a week before his arrival), and I still remember the day I finished everything and finally put all those things up on the walls as one of my proudest moments. (Anyone else have huuuge commitment issues when it comes to hanging things on walls?) I'd love to still add a few more things to his room, but for now I'm pretty content.

Anyways, I actually meant to do this blog post before Wyatt got here, but the day I was going to finish this post was the day Wyatt came, so a raincheck was definitely in order. :) As for the rest of our apartment...I'd love to share more of my adventures in "The Art of Homemaking"on here every once in a while. I'm convinced homemaking is a learned art, and one that I want to get better at. I wasn't kidding when I said this was serious business!

  3. His room is perfect!! You did such a great job! Hopefully when I'm pregnant I'll catch this little bug because right now I have no desire to really do anything with the home. ;)

  4. Looks beautiful! I love all of the bright colors with the black and white accents. In NYC I am always renting; I am envious of homeowners and their abilities to paint, re-tile, and change spaces!

  14. Girl, I need some sources for these amazing things...I'm completely in love with this room and now I totally want to re-do my boys room! haha!

But most importantly, where is that rug from?! I have looked for a good cow print rug for ages that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and isn't almost pure black!

  16. I LOVE it, Whit! You did such a great job, decorating can be tricky. I find it so hard to find the balance between modern (which I gravitate towards) and cozy. Sometimes modern can feel a little stark with a lot of hard surfaces. Wyatt's room is beautiful, and he's so stinkin' cute!

    1. It's from West Elm & the knobs are just wooden ones I picked up from Michael's that I painted different colors :)

  22. I love the things you chose for your baby's room: it's soft and beautiful and cozy and creative.

Homemaking is also something I love and just like you, putting the art I've been collecting along the way is not too easy, but I'm ready to make our home a real home and feel the warmth of coming to the only place where cozy means everything.

good luck with the rest of your home! :)
